Save As
The Save As page allows you to save the current project to a new location—locally or to cloud storage. Use this command to create project copies, change storage locations, archive milestones, or share projects with collaborators.
Page Layout
The Save As page presents destination options on the left panel:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Computer | Save to local or network storage |
| Add a Place | Save to cloud storage providers |
Saving to Local Storage

Saving to Cloud Storage
Upload your project to a registered cloud storage provider for backup, sharing, or remote access.
Adding a Cloud Provider
If you haven't configured cloud storage:
- Navigate to File → Save As
- Select Add a Place from the left panel
- Click Add a Place... to open the provider registration dialog
- Follow the authentication process for your cloud provider
Workflow: Save to Cloud
- Navigate to File → Save As → Add a Place
- Click Save to Cloud
- Select the destination folder in the cloud browser
- Enter a filename if prompted
- The upload begins with a progress indicator
- The project is saved to cloud storage upon completion
Saving to cloud uploads the entire project file. Large projects may take time depending on file size and connection speed. Monitor the progress dialog for status.
Use Cases
Creating Milestone Backups
Before making significant changes (major segmentation, mesh operations, or experimental processing):
- Use Save As to create a dated copy:
ProjectName_2025-01-13.vvcx - Continue working on the current project
- Revert to the milestone if needed by opening the backup
Relocating Projects to Faster Storage
Move projects to different storage for performance:
- Open the project from its current location
- Use Save As to save to an SSD or faster drive
- Continue working from the new location
Sharing with Collaborators
Prepare projects for sharing:
- Use Save As to save to a shared network location or cloud folder
- Verify collaborators have appropriate access permissions
- Communicate the project location to the team
Archiving Completed Work
Archive final project states:
- Use Save As to save to an archive location
- Include version or date information in the filename
- Consider using higher compression (configured in Preferences) for archived projects
Behavior Notes
Active Project After Save As
After completing a Save As operation:
- Volvicon continues working with the current project file
- The newly saved copy is a separate file at the specified location
- Subsequent Save operations write to the original location unless you open the new copy
If you want to continue working on the new copy, open it after Save As or use the new location as your primary project going forward.
Project Naming Recommendations
Use descriptive filenames that encode relevant information:
| Element | Example |
|---|---|
| Subject identifier | Patient001, Sample_A, Scan_2025 |
| Date | _2025-01-13 |
| Version | _v2, _final, _reviewed |
| Processing stage | _segmented, _meshed, _analyzed |
Example: Patient001_CT_2025-01-13_segmented_v2.vvcx
Troubleshooting
Save As Fails with Disk Full Error
- Check available disk space at the destination
- Large projects require space equal to the uncompressed project size during save
- Clear space or choose a different destination
Cannot Access Cloud Storage
- Verify internet connectivity
- Re-authenticate with the cloud provider if the session expired
- Check that firewall settings allow Volvicon cloud access
Save As Is Very Slow
- Large projects take longer to save
- Network or cloud destinations add transfer time
- Consider saving locally first, then copying to remote storage
