Close Project
The Close command ends the current project session while keeping Volvicon running. Use this when you want to switch to a different project or reset the workspace without exiting the application.
How Close Works
When you click Close:
- Volvicon checks for unsaved changes
- If unsaved changes exist, you are prompted to save, discard, or cancel
- Upon confirmation, the project closes and all data unloads from memory
- The application returns to a neutral state with no active project
After closing, you can:
- Open an existing project via File → Open
- Create a new project via File → New
- Exit Volvicon via File → Exit
Workflow: Closing a Project
- Click File to open the backstage
- Select Close from the navigation panel
- If prompted about unsaved changes:
- Save: Saves changes before closing
- Don't Save: Discards changes and closes immediately
- Cancel: Returns to the project without closing
- The project closes and the workspace clears
Unsaved Changes Dialog
When closing a project with unsaved changes, Volvicon displays a confirmation dialog:
| Option | Action |
|---|---|
| Save | Saves the project, then closes |
| Don't Save | Closes without saving (changes are lost) |
| Cancel | Cancels the close operation and returns to the project |
warning
Selecting Don't Save permanently discards all unsaved changes. This action cannot be undone. Use Save or Save As to preserve your work before closing.
When to Use Close
| Scenario | Reason |
|---|---|
| Switching projects | Close the current project before opening another |
| Freeing memory | Release memory used by large datasets |
| Resetting the workspace | Clear all data for a fresh start |
| Before loading large data | Close existing project to maximize available memory |
Close vs. Exit
| Command | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Close | Ends the project but keeps Volvicon running |
| Exit | Closes the project and shuts down Volvicon |
Use Close when you plan to continue working in Volvicon with a different project. Use Exit when you are finished with your session.
